   Derek Nimmo was born on 19 September 1932.

Derek had his wife Patricia entirely to thank for his acting career. Derek took a fancy to Patricia and she had no difficulty in selling him a ticket for an amateur dramatic production in which she was appearing. Derek later joined the group and the rest as they say, is history.

Derek had a very distinct turn of phrase and posh voice, this lead him to being cast as a series of posh establishment type characters. He of course made his name playing the Reverend Mervyn Noote in “All Gas and Gaiters”.

In Steptoe he was cast as an auctioneer in the “Crossed Swords” episode.

There was much more to Derek Nimmo than first met the eye. While he undoubtedly had a very successful TV and film career he also was successful in many other fields. He was also an author and impresario, producing plays in over 30 countries, He was also a well know raconteur and won the prestigious after diner speaker of the year award.

To many radio listeners he was one of the notable gang of 4 along with Kenneth Williams, Clement Freud and Peter Jones, who made Just a Minute the seminal radio panel game.

On 2 December 1998, Derek had an a accident falling down his stairs at home. He was in a coma in hospital where he contracted pneumonia. Derek died on 25 February 1999.
