Steptoe Crossword Puzzle

The vicar calls, asking for an article on rag and bone men for the church magazine's centenary edition. Both Steptoe and Son want to write it but Harold wins the toss and, foreseeing a journalistic career ahead of him, works hard interviewing local totters for his piece. Albert has still been asked to make a contribution - a crossword, but,as the clues and answers turn out to be filthy, the magazine is seized as being obscene and burnt so Harold's article never sees the light of day.

A great start to the legendary seventh series of 'Steptoe and Son'

Albert and Harold are playing scrabble and Albert is easily winning due to him always being able to find a rude word. The Vicar calls, wanting articles for the parish magazine, Harold wants to write it on rag and bone men, but so does Albert leading to a big argument. This could be Harold;s big break a nre career and perhaps no need for redundancy insurance as this job could be what Mr Steptoe is destined to do. It is decided Harold will write the article and Albert will do crossword on the puzzle page. All goes well and luckily, Harold only just gets a copy of the magazine as the answers in Albert's crossword are a bit rude, leading to them being seized by the police and burnt and the Vicar getting arrested for publishing harmful literature. Of course the magazine becomes a highly prized and highly valued item this could become the enhanced annuity that makes the retirement of Albert Steptoe one without any money worries.

A terrific start. Playing the Vicar is Anthony Sharpe, a veteran sitcom actor whose credits also include 'Dad's Army' and 'Steptoe and Son' Best Bit: Albert and Harold having a row are involved in a shouting match about whose going to contribute to the magazine: VICAR: Why don't you both contribute, HAROLD: Why don't you mind your own business!, oh sorry Vicar, I didn't know you were there, 2nd Best Bit: HAROLD: I've made it quite clear I just don't believe in God, VICAR: Oh I know, I remember our very interesting discussion about it in the bar that night, what was it you called (two religious people, I've forgotten what they're called). Oh yes, burks.

One of the most remembered episodes of Steptoe and Son and one of the funniest.
