When Steptoe Met Son...A Plea

Postby thatsthatthen » Sat May 10, 2008 4:54 pm

Hi

I know it was generally regarded as poor, but as I missed it when originally transmitted, does anyone here have a copy of the C4 prog when Steptoe met Son on vhs, dvd, avi, divX, mp4 etc etc?

If so, please let me know. I would really love to see it.

Cheers!

Hey Rian

Thanks for that.

Do you know what? We need a Swap Shop section ... or a totting members library.

Or of course some canny technical bod with all the films/programmes/interviews (hell, EVERYTHING!) already digitised and uploaded to some friendly site that only we can access to download...

Well I've given a lot of thought to this but gotta admit I woudln't know where to start.

My great idea was some password protected web space, which contained all episodes of the Steptoes (digitally remastered, colour restored...), scripts, films (H's and W's), mp3s of the radio shows and H's recordings...

Basically, a digital heaven.

Unfortunately, I really have no idea how to go about setting up
something like this. I'm not that technically minded. And dammit I don't have enough material of my own to make a start.

Would it even be legal?! I think some of the stuff is now in the public domain so would be okay. But a lot isn't and even though you can download via the old p2p or torrent network it's still not legal so this could be a bit of a dangerous area to venture into...

It was a good idea though wasn't it?

It was a great idea.

I'll give it some more thought, perhaps a members only area where materila that is no longer commercialy availalbe is stored ?

Hi Bob

A Members Only Area sounds wonderful.
Could call it the Totter's Yard.
Access by invitation only...
Could send a totter's plea to all forum members to pledge their electronic donations...
This could work!

Public domain works like this.. .the performance is 50 yrs, but thew script is the writers lifetime plus 70 yrs. So technically its still infringed f you dnt pay but if the thing is not released anyway, who are yu harming, especially if no one is making any money

I have When Steptoe Met Son on DVD, but I do not have any facility to copy it I'm afraid.

It doesn't matter if anyone is making money or not. That is not the point. The point is that you are exhibiting or distributing something that is not yours without the copyright holders consent. That is what constitutes a violation of the law, not the paying of money.

Yes. My point is, usually, they dont prosecute as they couldnt care less if you're not making any money. That was my point, of course it's still illegal yes. But you can only sue if they have anything, if they havent made money from it, no point in suing for infringement.

I'm with Phil on this one. A little biased for reasons that will remain between he and I though lol
