So, who's seen it?
I thought we'd nick a wreath off one of the graves as we went in.

Its an abomination. Not a patch on the original and Granville has just turned into Arkwright!

David Jason - The Quest for More Money!

Arkwright turned Granville to the dark side. It was inevitable that he would since Granville had nowhere else to go.

Nice to see the BBC used the very same street and shop from the new "Still Open All Hours" series. Also great to see some original cast members reprise their roles after many years, including the great David Jason (Granville), who's now morphed into what he feared. His uncle Arkwright. I also liked the fact how they put a picture of Arkwright ( Ronnie Barker) overseeing the shop as a tribute to the great lamented comedy genius, but did think the creators miscast some new characters. I'd have prefered Johnny Vegas as David Jason's son, Leroy, rather than the actor chosen (James Baxter). Vegas is naturally funny, where the actor chosen struggled I felt. I also found new characters "Cyril" ( Kulvinder Ghir) was hilarious and "Mrs Hussein" (Nina Wadia) unfunny. Sad really as she was superb in series "Goodness Gracious Me, as did friend and co-star Kulvinder Ghir", but I loved how Tim Healy's (Auf Wiedersehen Pet/Benidorm ) talents were utilised. Yes, the series will never be the original, there were some funny storylines, but compared with most on TV today was a classic. Says a lot about the state of today's comedies, and the very reason why I long for the good old days of Steptoe and Co. :|

As always, an articulate post by a much missed mate.
I've just watched "Auf Wiedersehen Pet!" for the first time...and
thank goodness there's no canned laughter. But for the accents go we,
because youchoobe "closed captioning" is so astonishingly off tack that
it's offensive, that is when their automated and very poorly designed
voice activated captions aren't being unintentionally hilarious .
Wishing you a very Penblwydd Hapus ILS :o

Hi DOY.

Yes Auf Wiedersehen Pet! is a classic, the first two series are the best although the later ones are not too bad. Its a busting series and a great bunch of characters.

I'll not spoil it for you but there is a great line of dialogue between Dennis and Barrie about Democracy in one of the later episodes where they are trying to decide on a colour to paint the interior of the hut.

Hi Nobby. You're right, Auf Wiedersehen Pet is excellent thus far.
A bit like a working man's Coronation Street...only without the birds.
Can I expect women to appear anytime soon? Certainly hope so because
if I have to watch those blokes coming out of the shower once more,
naked and most likely with some variety of fungal feet, yikes .
I'll be sure to look for the Democratic painting of the
hut episode and cheers for mentioning it :).

Hello DOY.

Yes there are Birds in Auf Weidersehen Pet, there is Marjorie who is Oz's Wife, Brenda - Neville's Wife, Vera - Dennis's wife and Dagmar his German girlfriend.

In case you haven't found the episode yet here is a clip about the Democracy bit:

Hi Nobby. I’d already found that AWP scene but thanks for the link.
Far funnier though, was the youchoobe link in your original post…
2 Scots trapped in a voice activated lift. That is without doubt one
of the funniest bits I’ve ever seen! Brilliant :o. Here it is again,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA6ektXRVak.
For added laughs and frustration, watch that clip with the closed
captioning turned on..."Eleven" becomes "I love Ben", and it just gets
worse from there. Voice recognition/morphing technology was perfected
in 1999. Apparently we’re meant to believe that two decades later, one of
the wealthiest most powerful corporations on the planet is unaware of that.
It’s completely stupid and insults the intelligence of the hearing impaired.
Useless, needlessly defective technology has taken over our lives, as
beloved comedy troupe Firesign Theatre forewarned us in their
hilarious 1971 examination of tech, human stupidity and
Disneyland, “I Think We’re All Bozos On This Bus"
