Great Night Out

Postby harryfaversham » Sun Jan 06, 2013 4:30 pm

New comedy drama starting Friday on ITV1. Plenty of star power and looks funny so will give it a watch

Overhyped as usual but funny enough I suppose

I didn't like it TBH. Not many recent comedies make the grade as far as I'm concerned. The best show within the past 10 yrs have been in my humble opinion are: IT crowd, Mighty Boosh, Not Going out, Miranda, My Family and finally High Hopes & Satellite City both written/acted in by writer Boyd Clack and produced by Gareth Gwenlan of Only Fools fame which was only available in Wales not network and is much better than that foul mouthed cack Mother Brown's sons fiasco on the BBC which is a stereotypical insult to all Irish People and to the great classic Father Ted series which it tries to ape badly.

When it first came on the tele I gave it the benefit of the doubt but as soon as language was used as a form of comedy I switched off. This is the very reason why Steptoe, Rising Damp, Dad's army plus many others are indeed classics because the relied on the Genius of the script writers not foul language as lure for folk to watch the comedy. Hey, I'm no Mary Whitehouse and like a film that's got edge and when used in context it works IE: Horror movie but not in a situation so called family comedy that tries to be Father Ted and fails miserably. Thank heavens for Galton & Simpson plus others who created comedy oasis's for us all to have sanctuary in from Television hell.

Sad but true and it makes it evident how much we miss the good ol days of the classic sitcom especially all the long gone Actors/Actresses who made British TV what it was then and still is now. Even the cheesy TV of the early eighties looks appealing to what's out today too.

Indeed it is. Watch a couple of episodes of games show Interceptor with that scary man in a helicopter and of course Anneka Rice's Treasure Hunt the other day on DVD which I got from a classic TV swap site and laughed my head off especially the Treasure Hunt Xmas special episode with Wayne" light on his feet" Sleep skipping through London looking for clues. Cheesy selection from the early/late 80's but Goodies compared with tosh served up today! :D

No offense meant, but a blind quadriplegic is better than Ringo
