Love this great comedy of the 70's.
Reg, bob, stephen and the gang made it one of the best sitcoms ever (after steptoe of course).

Reg; on the buses

Postby steve sheffield » Wed Nov 05, 2008 8:04 pm

whenever I watch On the Buses it never ever fails to astound me on how a slightly overweight late 40's? busdriver Stan aka Reg varney can pull the young attractive clippies! It gives us all hope!
I do enjoy on the buses and will check out the website.

thanks steve,

reg was in his 50's during OTB, so when you think about it - in real life he was only 12 years younger than his mum! (doris hare) :D

What kind of operation did Arthur have, exactly? It always got a laugh when mentioned.

it was always left up to the filthy minded old dears in the audience to decide because it tends to vary to suit each episode. When olive is trying to be romantic, arthurs operation will be referred to as problem with his manhood - when doing exercise or alike it wiould always reference to it being a hernia or alike.

That was always one of my favourites. "WILL YOU SHUT UO ABOUT MY OPERATION!" :D

As some of you may also know I am a huge fan of radio drama.

I have a recording from 1968 where Bob Grant plays a very serious Vicar in The Events at Black Tor, by Roy (Sumer Wine) Clarke and produced by Alan Ayckbourn.

You would never believe he went on to be Stan’s sidekick.

Reg Varney's now truly stuck at those cemetery gates with his clippy mate Bob Grant.

Bless you, Reg. :(
