Age difference Wilf & Harry ?

There is an article in today's Scottish Sunday Post newspaper about when popular series started.
Of course Steptoe & Son gets mentioned but it states there was only a difference of 13 years between Wilf and Harry - surely it was 12 years

They've just looked at 1912 and 1925 and calculated 13 years!!!! Lazy little bleeders!

When Harry was born Wilfrid would have been 12, but having his 13th birthday less than a month later.

It's hard to believe Wilfrid was only 49 when he made 'The Offer'.

Incidentally, Harry was 36, the same age as the character.

So yes, 12 years is actually correct.

An odd thing happened on my birthday, the driveway is at the rear of the house and backs onto a lock up garage site.
When I went out in the morning someone had left an old hot water tank and six lengths of copper pipe.

Now was this a gift so that I could fit a central heating system and did the lead man leave it

I called the police and they took it away - a very odd incident with a S&S connection

It comes as a surprise to most people to find the difference in their ages was so little. Wilf made a career out of playing characters much older than he actually was. Stephanie Cole did the very same thing. She was only in her early 40's when she played the black widow, Mrs. Featherstone, in Open All Hours though the character was always presented as being much older.

Clive Dunn was the same, playing much older characters, as was David Jason for a while before he became super famous as Del Boy

Yes, David Jason as old Webb in Porridge was brilliant. I almost didn't recognize him the first time I saw an episode with him in it. I only identified him by his voice at first until it struck me where I'd heard it before, as Granville in OAH.

12 years, 11 months is actually closer to 13 than it is to 12. I hope never to drive over a bridge that was engineered by you. That's like computing the value of pi to be an even 3 and leaving off the dangly bits after the decimal point.
