very fortunate to attend a
live performance of Nancarrow's
astonishingly complex and startlingly beautiful compositions. His specially modified
player pianos were carefully shipped to the US from Mexico. And for afters, there was an
audience Q & A with composer Conlon! A thoroughly nice chap too, having fought against
Franco's fascists in the Spanish Civil War, he chose to live in Mexico as an expatriate, rather
than be persecuted here for his service as a Veteran with the Abraham Lincoln Brigade.
