Favourite Non-comedies

Postby PhilGlass » Fri Jul 20, 2012 9:00 pm

We've had favourite comedies, what are the non-comedy shows you love?

My top ten would be (in more or less this order):

1. Columbo
2. Minder
3. Quantum Leap
4. Monk
5. Planet Earth
6. The Twilight Zone
7. Ally McBeal (okay, shut it!)
8. Doctor Who
9. Jonathan Creek
10. Crime Traveller (10 points to anyone who remembers this 1 series wonder from the 90's!)

As you can tell, I love my Detective shows!

Not in any order

Minder
Columbo
Gold Rush
Prison Break (Disappointed with the last season)
Dexter (last 2 seasons have been poor)
Boardwalk Empire
NCIS

There is more, i just can't think of any at the moment.

Non-comedic? That's difficult to achieve, contemporary yank telly is of such depressingly poor quality that even dramas are laughable. Not to say there aren't exceptional performances or production values, we sometimes shine in those departments. But content? Hmmm. No accounting for taste as the saying goes, but networks know that people will watch anything if there's nothing else to watch. I've done many times, those cooking programs were hilarious! Some gourmet or another getting more and more tanked as the show progressed lol. That yoga program that Harold urgently switches the channel to in the first film? I watched that show as a lad, and Jack La Laine. Jack was a riot. He was so fixated on getting everyone as fit as he was (clearly an impossibility) and was so irrepressibly cheerful, you'd actually get up and do jumping jacks lol.

Well, as non-comedies I meant those not billed as sitcom.

Theres not been much on the telly worth watching for 30 odd years :( I quite enjoyed the recent Alcatraz, and Sons Of Anarchy though.

Yeah, Some of Australia's hottest birds all enclosed in one confined space. Makes me feel all tingly thinking about it.
