COVID-19, some thoughts, please share yours…

There’s little doubt that lots of forum visitors/regulars
are experiencing the same things I’ve described.
With any luck they’ll find their voices again.
Interesting to note that...
MANY people in this dumber than a sack of rocks excuse for a burg quite deliberately
won’t social distance and refuse to wear masks. Talk about an exaggerated sense
of self-entitlement, daft berks. By definition, willful ignorance. And price gouging,
the local medical supply has been breaking packages of paper masks into fours,
puts them into ziplock bags and charges $20 for 4 masks! Once upon a time,
...and this wasn’t long ago folks...profiteering in time of national, and
in this case global crisis, was a serious criminal offense.
As COVID-19 spreads way, far faster than AIDS, what we’re all witnessing…
it’s like the Jonestown mass suicide on a far vaster scale, that’s how blinkered many
people are behaving. Apparently they’ve chosen not to comprehend what Pandemic
means. Most never heard of the 1918 flu pandemic that killed millions worldwide,
and couldn’t care less anyway. I’m decidedly not misanthropic…but as a lifelong
mountaineer I tend to notice when human behavior is bizarre; one chooses not
to climb with such people if you expect to survive. And the current climate is
more than a little creepy. But hey, much like those old Guinness adverts...
...Steptoe is good for you! Lots of iron…even if it is any old iron :o.

Whatever the crisis, there will be winners and losers, this is how we live now or supposed to live? just that in the UK we were slow to act in time and the government advisers went with the "herd" mentality to subdue the virus but it failed, as an island we have the advantage as new Zealand had and look at their results (low deaths) and already back to almost normal. lots of folks died that should be alive now. we will get over it in the end but what is yet to come?

Hi Tony, cheers for replying mate. You’re probably already aware of this but it bears mentioning…
The CDC has stated that there is no scientific evidence to suggest that people who recover from the virus will not become infected again. The obvious conclusion being, that so called “herd immunity” to COVID-19 is an extremely dangerous fallacy, and without a vaccine herd immunity can’t occur anyway. That cases in New Zealand dropped to virtually zero isn’t surprising...they acted quickly and responsibly and despite having greater landmass than the UK they’ve a fraction of your population. But most notably...Kiwi's tend not to suffer the shockingly bad governance we
do lately, on both sides of the pond. I’ve survived terrible disasters, natural and unnatural, and have witnessed how entire communities come to each other’s aid in time of emergency. So I know that inflammatory depictions
(as seen in sci-fi movies and corporate news media) of people at each other’s throats, are grotesquely exaggerated. But the psychopathy of those who allow blind zealotry to permit their thinking that state mandated masks during a global pandemic somehow violates their civil rights…aberrant behavior like that is something else entirely: it's a
conscious or unconscious death wish, which is why I used the horrific 1978 Jonestown mass suicide as an analogy.
Frank Zappa once said, “Ignorance can be fixed, but stupid is forever.” One need look no further for proof of
that axiom than those who abandon reason and empathy, ignore state law, and even though they may be
pre-symptomatic, believe their spreading COVID-19 to the community and the world is a privilege.

But on a lighter note…and about time too, this being a comedy forum 8)...
For eight years now my favorite comedian Lewis Black has been live-streaming questions/comments from his
audiences in a closing segment called “The Rant Is Due”…and his replies are invariably hilarious :o. Here are
some clips found at youchoobe, but viewer be advised: Lewis is nearly 72 years old, so you can expect
to hear him talking like an adult, lots of swearing. But it’s always in context, never maliciously.
Lew is a sweetheart of a guy, acutely intelligent and enormously funny, hope you
enjoy, https://www.youtube.com/user/OfficialLewisBlack/videos.

We can assume those were rhetorical questions, nevertheless the answers are easy .
...As I’ve stated many times here over the years and made quite clear in reviewing
“My Old Man’s A Tory" *...I’ve no interest in politics whatsoever and can scarcely
imagine anything more boring. But it is a legitimate subject, seeing that in Ray
and Alan’s scripts, Albert & Harold were frequently placed on opposite sides
of the fence. I grew up in a town that had an enormous British community
and have always had mates across the pond and down under, so I care
about what happens over there and tend to have informed opinions.

If you want to know what comes next, just keep an eye on politics this side
of the pond. Because so long as British PM’s continue to behave…as they
have for decades…as if the UK isn’t just an ally but is a US client state,
...it’ll be remarkably easy to predict decisions Downing Street will be
making next. The latest parroting of shockingly irresponsible policies,
is that sending kids to school during a terrifyingly infectious global pandemic
is, quote, “a moral duty.” This while kids are becoming infected at unprecedented
rates. Over here recently....children’s infection rates skyrocketed 40% in two weeks.
Numbers of young people becoming infected far surpassed the elderly months ago.
There’s literally no room for the dead anymore! Some major cities have been forced
to bring in refrigerated trucks because the morgues are filled to capacity with
the victims of COVID-19. A recent scientific study shows that the virus can
and does remain suspended in the air for as far as 5 meters and takes its
time to travel across a room, even in still air. But, to paraphrase beloved
comedian George Carlin, "Nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care.”
