Pot Black colourised

Postby taylorslade » Fri Nov 27, 2020 3:42 pm

Whilst browsing YouTube today I noticed that someone uploaded colourised version of Pot black. Apologies if posted before, i couldn't find it when i searched the forum. If the person responsible for this resides here, then thank you for your hard work. I would imagine that this took a long time. Even though it's not possible to get an exact match to the original, it's fantastic to see this great episode once again with colour. Also, with the way things are with the BBC we are unlikely to have them pull their finger out and find the originals or do anything with them if they did....and as time goes on its more unlikely that any home colour recordings we all hope for will show up.
Best wishes,
Shaun.

Hi Shaun. Thanks for that, but unfortunately the link doesn’t work. If what you viewed and described actually required time consuming, frame-by-frame efforts, a colourised “Pot Black” would’ve been a joy to watch! As
Phil has described (and this was his field of expertise) colourisation needs to be frame by frame, and Snodge
has described the same labour intensive efforts with his B/W episode restorations, which we’re all grateful for. Coincidentally, someone (same person you mentioned?) has been colourising many episodes and posting them @ youchoobe. But it’s obvious they were lazily done by machine, and the results are very annoying. Colours strobing from one end of the spectrum to the other in a matter of seconds, which is so obnoxious, that the result is a gross disservice to Ray & Alan, Wilfrid & Harry. And although this a subject that has been examined many times over the years in this forum, the chances that BBC “will pull a finger out” and release, let alone distribute and/or recognize Steptoe (which they’ve conspicuously been ignoring for decades) are unlikely at best. This is what happens when members of the House of Lords and Ofcom (an equally ineffectual organization) are placed in positions to govern what was once key and essential BBC public broadcasting. Once upon a time, BBC News had reasons to be proud, whereas now their online news service has been reduced to a tawdry tabloid: Yellow journalism, the sort that
would make Rupert Murdoch’s Viagra prescriber proud . Anyway, cheers and please keep posting :).
