I only found out like everyone this afternoon about the sad news of the great Frank Thornton's passing. Was there no bounds to this man's talents? From Theatre to Films to appearing in some of the finest British comedies going his passing like the other greats before is another piece of comedy gold lost, a gem lost in that unreachable ocean out of reach to us mere mortals which lies beyond the edge of the pearly gates of heaven. RIP Frank may you be reunited with all your loved ones, past friends and that your memory live on in your work. :(

Another great actor lost to comedy. Frank appeared in I think 4 episodes of Steptoe and the first movie.

RIP

Forever remembered as Captain Peacock, but bought much enjoyment with many of his numerous roles from Steptoe to Hancock. He will be missed.

Sad news indeed, an extraordinary and versatile actor.
Always fun to watch him work regardless of role.
Good innings 92 but not nearly enough.
RIP Frank

Loved that Hancock classic episode " The Blood Donor" featuring Frank Thornton. He had the knack of playing that aloof character which he also continued playing in Steptoe's Xmas 73 episode when Harold went into the Travel Agents to collect his Holiday tickets and again as regimental Captain Peacock in the are you being served. Galton & Simpson had an eye for quality hence the calibre of actors on their show. 8)

It seems he ( Frank Thornton) was with us forever with all his work on TV and I'm sad to say we struggle today even to have the same sort of multi talented TV/film/Radio character actosr to even tie Frank's shoe laces let alone have his longevity in the business. Looks like the era of British comedy greats are coming to an end with his passing. Not many left if any now. :|
