I don't watch tv here (no aerial/satellite signal and not bothered what they show anymore, when I have plenty of DVDs, You Tube etc etc anyway) but that doesn't mean I'll miss it though.... this is one for the diary.

I'm sure my Mum & Dad won't mind me commandeering their set for a few hours while I visit but as it's something we all watched together, back in the early 80s, when it was shown on BBC1 (late at night - and the 1st film a week or so before, when I was in my early teens) then I think they might be happy for us all to sit and watch it together once again.

I was thinking of watching both films sometime soon again, at my place- but this is great to hear!

:D

Did anyone watch or record this last night?.

I watched bits of it this morning and to be honest I was kind of disappointed in the HD picture, I know it is an old film and won't look like today's films but it wasn't as good as the first film ITV3 HD shows. Some scenes looked nice and yet others looked blurred and lacked detail. Also at the start they kept changing the aspect ratio, after the opening credits the mage seemed to pan in!

Saying all the above it looks much better than the DVD releases! :D

And they edited some swearing!. The part when the dog messes up the first race, as they walk back to retrieve the dog from the handler Albert calls Frankie a W@nker!

You're correct, newgen2005. They faded the sound down for that particular line and yet they left in the line about all the junk in the coffin 'confusing' some archaeologist in the future.

I'm glad they edited out the swearword but it indeed seemed as if only parts were in HD :?

I missed it. :( I'm sure there will be other occasions though... and by the time I invest in a Blu Ray player (AND telly bigger than 16") I'm sure just about everything 'vintage' film-wise I want, will be out on BR. So that's a fair time away then.

Interesting, what I've been reading above about the naughty 'w' word being removed - I'd guess this would be so it's suitable for upcoming earlier screenings in the future (I don't think there would be much left of the first film, if they chopped it to be shown in a daytime slot!)

I always thought Albert was referring to the dog being useless though, by saying what he did? Whenever I've seen this (in the early 80s on BBC1, when we recorded it - if I remember rightly, it was shown 3 times) and the Warner VHS release my Dad had from the late 80s or early 90s, the line isn't all that clear - so it's not all that easy to hear exactly what is said.. it always sounded like part of it was spoken away from the microphone or the sound was faded in. But it's unmistakable what that word was.
