AYBS? - The Next Generation.

What a stupid idea there are no living AYBS? cast.

First Still Open All Hours, then they say that It Aint Half Hot Mum will NEVER be repeated and now this?

It's bound to be a disaster like the dreadful Open All Hours remake

The PC thought police would go berserk at a new Mr Humphries

They'd probably cast Matt Lucas.

I am the only gay in this department store!

And Still Open All Hours isn't that bad. After seeing just the Christmas special pilot episode I thought it would be just a bunch of recycled gags from the original but now that I have the first two whole seasons it is turning out to be a fairly balanced mix of old and new. One thing I have noticed that is different is that Mrs. Featherstone appears more often than she used to and she is a lot chattier than usual in the original series. Arkwright used to be the only one she would speak to in civil tones. She didn't have much use for anyone else. Most other people would get her scorn (and frequently the point of her umbrella) or be ignored entirely. Now she socializes with the neighborhood women and occasionally with one or two of the men. She has gotten soft in her old age.

The same sort of thing has been happening over here for quite some time; studio execs that not only fear creativity, but lack it entirely. If something is successful they keep repeating the same formulaic rubbish again and again.
It’s unlikely I’m alone in the opinion that AYBS? wasn’t all that great a show in the first place, despite a terrific cast. But those flaws do lend to its charm.

Judging by the clips I've seen of the new Dad's Army movie it looks like a load of cobblers !.

This would be a huge mistake. There is only on AYBS cast, and sadly they're all (bar one) serving customers in the Pearly Gates department store in the sky. I'd rather the BBC create a new series than insult a classic. Not happy. :x

They won't be remaking "Any Old Iron" that's for certain.

And speaking of the new Open All Hours and the PC police, has anyone besides myself noticed an absence of tobacco products in the shop? It's difficult to imagine a small corner shop like that surviving without selling cigarettes and cigars.
