Website SOS !!!

Postby bob » Wed Aug 31, 2011 7:08 pm

From tomorrow (1st September 2011) this website becomes the official home of the Steptoe and Son Appreciation Society. After years of doing the rounds in cyberspace Ron Bean has decided it is time to hand over the reins to someone else, and Ron decided to hand it over to the ‘totters’ on this site. Not that Ron doesn’t have as much time as he wants to change his mind !!!

Please don’t expect too many changes immediately; I have had a number of plans for the site in my mind for some while in any case and so things will just evolve naturally, which is web designer code for slowly. I should put up a new banner with the ‘Official” bit on it so I will used this as an excuse to widen the page to comply with more modern browsers.

Anyway here is the bit where you can really help. It would be nice for the “official” site to have a review of every Steptoe episode, before we move onto other things. We only have 16 to go. I have set myself a target to have them all published before Christmas, but it is a big task for one person. Once I have received a review it still takes a couple of hours to publish. So can I ask you all to review on of the un-reviewed episodes.

If that isn’t cheeky enough, can I also ask that they are of a reasonable length. I have published a few that are not more than just two sentences, and while I am grateful that people have felt able to contribute they haven’t really done the site justice. Therefore can you make your reviews 300 – 600 words long. Trust me it isn’t as hard as it seems, and it is a good discipline. The post is already over 300 words long !!!

Just so people don’t end up reviewing the same episode, why not reply to this post saying which one you are going to do. That way others know and can pick another one.

Oh ! and one more thing …….. Don’t give the end away !

Episodes that still need to be reviewed :

    The Diploma
    Wallah-Wallah Catsmeat
    The Bath
    The Stepmother
    Sixty-Five Today
    Full House
    Is That Your Horse Outside
    Homes Fit For Heroes
    Steptoe a’la Cart
    And Afterwards at
    The Siege of Steptoe Street
    A Box in Town
    My Old Mans A Tory
    TB or not TB
    Men of Property
    The Three Feathers

Hi Bob. I submitted a review of "The Bath" a while back.

It's such an excellent and important episode though, gimme till tomorrow to tighten the review up, make some improvements, and I'll resubmit it.

If nobody else chooses "Sixty-Five Today" I could give that a go as well :)

I'll have a go at "Full House" if nobody objects.

Also, if I can be of any other assistance you know where to find me! :)

Thanks Phil.

Just so everybody is aware : Dirty Old Yank has reviewed The Bath, and I think he will also have a go at Sixty-Five Today.

Phil is doing Full House.

I will do my share, promise, but for the moment there are still 13 to choose from. Go on you know you want to see your name in pixels.

Thanks all

Bob

Thank you all for your support and excellent reviews.

I have now published The Bath and hope to get Phil's review up soon.

Just to let you know Ron Bean has told me he is close to letting me have the code for his first game. A crossword based on Men of Letters. So a big 1 across for Ron and 14 Down to the rest of you !!!

 Don't you dare speak to us that way! lolol
Thanks for putting "The Bath" up Bob.
And looking forward to "Full House" Phil.
"65 Today" submitted.

After much kind encouragement, I'm gonna give "My Old Man's A Tory" a go.

Hope it comes off all right.
Truth is, if it weren't for the ginger beard, I wouldn't know Harold Wilson from Harry Nilsson. But...we do what we can :)

"My Old Man's A Tory" submitted :)
If nobody's chosen it yet I'll give "The Siege Of Steptoe Street" a go.
Hadn't watched it in a while, forgotten how funny it is.

Go for it Phil, we all want to read more of your reviews! :)
Thanks for putting Tory up Bob, will finally submit 65 Today within a few days and start on Siege Of Steptoe Street soon.
Sorry for the delay, been in hospital for over a week. Much of it in critical care after one of my lungs collapsed. No warning, was feeling fit, happened in the middle of the night and didn't get medical attention for 10 hours. By rights I shoulda been dead from cardiac arrest. One lucky sod.
A word of advice to you smokers:
If you're the kind of person that enjoys feeling like a burning pin cushion and having so many life supporting tubes hanging off you that you look like a marionette...
If you enjoy being ignored and/or abused by that select company of sadistic night nurses that bear a closer resemblance to Freddy Krueger than Jean Henri Dunant...
then by all means, keep on smokin' them fags.
