NOT to be mistaken with the episode, folks, This is a documentary about the influence steptoe has had on people. I went to listen on Iplayer but it said it wasn't available due to copyright restrictions. I'll check back, thanks for the tip off.

Click this link to hear it... worth the listen.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... _and_Sons/

We have Marks and Gran amongst other comedy writers talking with Ray and Alan, all about Steptoe. Did Steptoe REALLY inspire Pinter? Oh, it's possible.

Listen carefully to Ray and Alan at the end - they are genuinely overwhelmed by the 'nice' things people have said - it shows what great blokes they really are.

You're welcome. Galton and Simpson should be taught on the national curriculum - when we look at The Offer now we view it differently, it is impossible for someone of my generation to totally understand the impact, but there is nothing I can remember having such an impact since... this was a program called COMEDY Playhouse, yet the almost gothic program doesn't actually raise a laugh from the studio audience for nearly 4 minutes... now let me ask, if you tune in to a new comedy and dont laugh in the first four minutes, that's a bad thing right? But from the outset the characters were so intriguing it's irrelevant... this was the FIRST EVER comedy-drama... television owes Galton and Simpson far more than it can ever repay. They were also the first light entertainment program to use certain swear words, that's always a good claim to fame!

Galton & Simpson created the sitcom. Enough said

I despair of the state of this country nowadays. I actually hate being British sometimes

Just as a reminder, I think IPlayer only keeps these shows on for 7 days, so if anyone hasn't heard this yet, and wants to, dont leave it too long, I thought it was a fascinating program and all too short at a mere 30 minutes
