Steptoe Actor Angus MacKay has sadly died aged 86. He was most fondly remembered for the part in the classic Steptoe & Son episode " And so to bed" as the pompous bed salesman who took a shine to Harold when he wanted a water bed after the bed bug saga. Starred in many a series & movie especially the cult series Doctor Who. A great loss and another comedy jigsaw piece of ones childhood lost forever.

Like all stars of yesteryear you still have an image of them as they were 30/40 years ago. It only hit home when either you see them again on the box after all that time or they have passed on as in Angus's case. Mortality is a clock we cannot turn back or stop sadly. At least he and others have made an impression on the fabric of life and will be remembered unlike most who are not as fortunate.

"And So To Bed" is a favorite, among the tightest written and directed episodes, and MacKay's performance as the gay salesman is classic, hilarious. And he was permitted to wear his own spectacles.
R.I.P. Angus

Yeah I loved that episode too and had everything from Bed bugs to DIY. Harold tried his best to have his girlfriend around but with little bony Albert next door hammering his shoes as they made out it wasn't going to happen. The part I like is when the character played by Angus asks Harold "is his bedroom overly masculine" as he puts his hand on his arm and Harold looks back at the salesman ( Angus) and says "and so am I." Hilarious.

This one passed me by... what a great shame, a brilliant actor. Worked with Harry in his last tv role. Sadly missed.
