Postby Ilovesteptoe » Sun Aug 20, 2017 9:33 pm

With great sadness it's been announced that the comedy icon Jerry Lewis has died aged 91yrs.

Jerry Lewis was born Joseph Levitch to Russian Jewish immigrant in 1926 in the state of New Jersey, USA. He in the beginning used stage-name Joey Lewis, but later changed it to Jerry not to confuse it with the comedy act same name. Joey E. Lewis and heavyweight boxer, Joe Louis. He hit the bigtime in 1946 as part of double act with fellow acting icon, Dean Martin, did numerous radio/stage & comedy films together before their split in 1956 due to Martin citing his reduced role in the partnership. Both finally reconciled their differences in 1987 after the death of the star's air-force pilot son, Dean Paul Martin, who tragically died in a plane crash aged just 35yrs. As a solo performer made cult films such as, A Visit To A Small Planet (1960), The Bellboy (1960), Cinderfella (1960), Errand Boy (1961), Nutty Professor (1963) etc. He also was first artist to start what is know as the televised charity event, "The Telethon" , making millions for charity throughout the years. Was also a world-renowned humanitarian who supported fundraising for research into muscular dystrophy, and until 2011, served as national chairman of and spokesman for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (formerly, the Muscular Dystrophy Associations of America. He even in the twilight of his life, suggested he wanted to do another movie. RIP Jerry. :|
