Frankie Howerd Lost Tapes

Postby Archie » Wed Jan 02, 2013 6:00 pm

It was on Channel 4 last night and showed some unseen footage of FH. I was especially fascinated by his house it has become a time capsule of his life, untouched since his death with show biz items and even fan letters :o

Yeah, Seen it and was fascinated with his early life as I was when I watched the Bob Monkhouse biopic. Pity that towards the end of both of their lifes they came back into fashion before they both passed away "Howerd 1992 & Monkhouse 2003." Ironically I was going to see Frankie Howerd in the Swansea Grand back in 1991 but was persuaded by a so called friend to see Roy Chubby Brown instead. A decision I will regret for the rest of my life. :(

I had a similar Frankie stroy. He was playing the Kenneth Moore Theatre in Ilford. I could have gone along and never did.

Still kick myself to this day !!!

There will never be another Frankie. Not sure about the Sarcophagus though, Was that Frankies wish or an idea by Denis ?

Most likely Denis's. :) I don't think Frankie was ever a fashion or interior design victim but I can remember he did that Documentary and he was wandering lonely on that beach talking about his past career plus when he started doing the stand up scene again and how he loved seeing a new generation of fans in the audience, and after his passing his partner Denis a few year later went on TV to say that he had opened up their home as a tribute to Frankie to the public and sadly when he died all the contents including his and Frankie's personal items were sold at auction. Very sad to see all those pics, posters , Scripts up the loft get separated including the most private of items his infamous Toupee. :|

I think so. There's nothing more pitiful than seeing someone’s life possessions layed out ready for sale at Auction. I often attend local bootsales to find the odd collectable and see loads of House clearance folk selling off personal items from families which include photos, Documents and such. Very sad to see a family's history basically broken up and sold on stalls for pennies in some cases. :|

Indeed it is but if there's no family able or willing to maintain or the protect items from their past history this is the final resting place sadly. Brings a little tear to ones eye and a heavy heart. :|
