Anybody like Citizen James?

Postby Ilovesteptoe » Wed May 15, 2013 3:22 pm

Just finished watching the Galton & Simpson series especially written for Sid James called Citizen James. Only eight of of thirty two episode exist sadly but what is left was brilliant. It starred obvious Sid James post Hancock and many of the cast that appeared in the series which included Bill Kerr, Liz Frazer, Patricia Hayes and many more. Your thoughts of this classic early sixties series? :)

Out of the three series produced Sadly that episode with Wilfrid Was lost and doesn't appear on the set. The DVD features episodes: 1 to 6 from series one on think and from series two episodes 10 & 11. I'd love to have seen that one with Wilfrid in.

I had a few episodes on DVD ( About 4) from Classic TV swap site but then found out they'd released an official DVD with 5 episodes I'd never seen which I had to buy. Really loved the atmos of this show and the banter between Sid, Bill Kerr and the cast. It reminded me of the Arthur Haines show a bit which I also love. It's shame so many were episodes of this series were lost but it seems it's the same story always with classic shows. Crap TV, old political interviews they keep where the classics they somehow lose or scrap. Go figure?

I Agree 100%. It's amazing anything survived with the BBC and thank heavens for Galton & Simson who had this in their private archives not to mention the Steptoe classics.

Indeed so. The BBC were still junking shows in the early nineties too with the cult children's series Rentaghost. I'd like to hope they've learned their lesson. They are still holding on to many classic series but will not release them or even show them on the box for some odd reason?
