No reason not to indulge in fantasy, but I'm grateful Steptoe didn't resort to stunt casting, hiring famous faces for their own sake.
What I'd like to know is which respected actors wish they had been cast...there's bound to be many!
I forgot to mention Marty Feldman, Fenella Fielding and Alun Armstrong.
And a belated welcome to Steptoe and Son Scrap!

Roy kinnear would have been good as a fellow Totter :)

I'm enjoying seeing him as Georges shady friend in the re runs of George and Mildred running on Sky 119 each weekday night just now :o

Oliver Reed
Henry Cooper (a Frankie Barrow heavy perhaps?)
The Beatles (why not, they came on Morecambe and Wise!)
Keith Moon (probably a more complicated one to work in there)
Harry Secombe (and oh the fat jokes did flow )
A young Mick Jagger perhaps? I'd like to see Albert take him down a peg or two  Sounds weird to say now, The Stones being the huge transatlantic thing that they are now but back in the mid 60s they were just scruffy looking herberts from Richmond

Hmmm, interesting question actually...Laurence Olivier although i can't see him going a bundle for it....Alan Bates perhaps? Rita Tushingham?

I think Mr Mackay out of Porridge would have been brilliant myself.

Welcome sayagg

~Thanks for joining

I remember Tony Selby playing a bulling Seargent in 'Get Some In'. Sorry if I have got the wrong actor.

I could see him playing some kind of rival totter, who is trying to muscle in on the Steptoe round. Another plot for a book Phil ???

How are you related to Tony Selby

You know Archie, although it was Tony's "baby" it is far from my fav, some of it is painful (like so many other sitcoms). I prefer him in the Sweeney, minder ect...His Doc Who was good too!!

Sid James: it would have been good to see him pull a con over Harold and then have Albert save the day with his own scheme.
Hattie Jacques: romancing a unwilling Harold.
Harold Bennett: Maybe playing Alberts older brother, who comes for a holiday at the Steptoes and refuses to leave.
Ronnie Barker
