Some great suggestions in this thread...especially like Michael Ripper as the landlord of the Skinners Arms. Hugh Lloyd would have done a good turn imo.

I was about to suggest John Laurie...till I remembered Wallah, Wallah Catsmeat!

Agreed, Michael Ripper deserved to be in Steptoe really.
He was that versatile an actor, comedy or drama, always a pleasure to watch.
Hope to read Derek Pykett's biography of his friend Ripper someday.

I would have loved to have seen the late great Peter Sellers. As far as I know he only did one sitcom appearance in Britain being Sykes, which was hilarious, especially the out-takes. He would have played a great totter in competition with Harold. :P
