50th Anniversary Celebrations?

Postby RolandSquire » Mon Apr 16, 2012 1:53 pm

Hello all!

As 2012 marks the 50th Anniversary since 'Steptoe & Son' first transmission I was wondering what we could do to mark this event?

The BBC seem to have passed over this historic event with only briefly mentioning it on the BBC London News in January.

I decided to sit down and work my way through the entire series tweeting my way through and it was great fun especially when talking to other fans on there. It proved to me that there is still a lot of love for the show and also thanks to Comedy Gold there is a new younger generation that loves it just as much.

Here is my 50th Anniversary Blog post if any of you care to take a look at it-

I was also thinking whether we could all pick an evening next month and have a mass tweet along to 'Steptoe and Son Ride Again' and try and get #SteptoeAt50 trending?

If anyone is also feeling adventurous we could try and get a screening sorted?

Anyway!

Thanks for reading and looking forward to hearing your suggestions

Hi Roland

Welcome and pull up a seat...

Great blog!!! Fantastic and glad to hear about the tweeting. I like your idea of a mass tweet though I am not a tweeter, even though I am part of the tweet generation.

A screening sounds great. I have put the feelers out a few times and people seem keen as long as its only on their own doorstep so it's never come to anything... but nothing stops those who want to getting together unofficially to watch a few episodes and rarities (which i can provide). Feel free to contact me with any ideas.

Great blog, hope to see you on the forum lots more!!

Tweets are an excellent idea! It might help the cause to encourage performers/artists to do likewise.
Surely there's lots of famous tweeters that would love to see a Steptoe double bill!
Wikipeadia (a notoriously unreliable resource, but it's all I got) suggests London has 2 revival houses:
Prince Charles Cinema,
and BFI Southbank.
They should be of assistance.
Revival theatres are vanishing, but we've got a few left here, I'll ring/write em for suggestions :)
