Re occurring Characters

I always thought part of what made the show good was it's relative LACK of recurring characters. The stories focused mainly on Harold and Albert. Having too many other characters making regular appearances on the show would have taken too much time away from them.

Apart from Frank Thornton.

He's played four different characters: The Economist, 65 Today, Steptoe A La Carte and Steptoe & Son Ride Again.

I'm also a big fan of Mr Greenwood, the income tax inspector from Live Now PAYE Later - "painful..."

There’s lots of characters from “Ride Again” I'd liked to have seen more of that deserved to be in the telly series.
Bill Maynard (George), Neil McCarthy (Lennie), Milo O’Shea (Dr. Popplewell), everyone getting brahms and liszt.
Not to mention their wives and cousins, alternately weeping and doing burlesque high kicks. A favorite bit,
when insurance salesman Frank Thornton isn't spared the drunken invective, “He’s a shop steward!" .

Would’ve been nice to see more of beautiful & talented Gwendolyn Watts as Harold’s French niece, Monique .
There’s great truth in Albert forgetting his xenophobia in an instant, hilarious and wonderful to witness. Fun too (though occasionally alarming) was the evolution of disposable ephemera like fashions and hairstyles, everything
was happening so fast back then. But in todays climate of yellow journalism fueled intolerance, where refugees
are mischaracterized as “illegal immigrants” and demonized by politicians...Ray & Alan’s unparalleled
comedy scripts like Steptoe à la Cart, are as timely and relevant now as they were then, more so.
