Dressing up for radio!

Postby BLAKESCREWE » Thu Jan 19, 2012 3:35 pm

Just re-reading parts of the Robert Ross book and was interested to read that both Harry and Wilf used to dress up in costume to record the radio series so they could get into character, I heard this years ago about Mike Yarwood who used to pull all the faces etc whilst doing his impressions on the radio as he could`nt do them any other way, not sure if the Dad`s Army cast ever dresssed up to record their radio series, did they or not?

Radio announcers used to dress up - the men in dinner suits and bow ties, women in evening gowns !.

At one time people took pride in their appearance, I can hardly remember seeing my old man without a shirt and tie even below his overalls - he was a mechanic. Today of course shell suits and shirts hanging out of trousers are the usual style :|
