...and then I discovered a downside of watching episodes on my iPod while on the bus...

...missing my stop and having to walk all the way back!

Totally worth it.
I was able to listen to some of the radio episodes on the long walk home.

...gotta take your pleasure where you can.

So okay Rian I'll take your challenge and watch The Bath in The Bath. Might even try it with Pickled Onions, though as Wilfrid Brambell admitted after that scene:

For at least two weeks after that short sequence, despite the fact that I sprayed expensive unguents all over my body even where they stung, I stank even to myself like an empty vinegar bottle.

Urgh! Gives you a bit of a clammy shiver...

Just watched Seance in a Wet Rag and Bone Yard again.

What an amazing performance from Patricia Routledge as Madam Fontana. She's so much better than Hyacinth Bucket (promounced Bouquet).

Is there anybody there

Dad - can I sleep in your bed?

And can I just check...

Harold's Mum's called Emily?

For some reason I thought it was Elizabeth.

I also watched The Bath on the bus home yesterday. The scenes with Albert in the tin bath in the living room have a whole new meaning for me now that I know W had a pickled onion stuck up his oo-er orifice...

I always giggle at Seance in Wet Rag and Bone Yard when Patricia Routledge grabs Harold and says, 'I can feel it seeping out'.

And 'U R A S I L L Y T U R D'.

:D

Elizabeth was Captain Maniwearing's wife in Dad's Army.

Just like Emily Steptoe she never appeared.

Thanks Bob

If Emilly Steptoe appeared that would be truly freaky...although Harold hears her say "Goodnight Harold" at the end of 'Seance..'

At least Elizabeth Mainwaring was alive!

So she was the original "Her indoors" (Minder?) and "She Who Must be Obeyed" (Rumpole?) ... did they ever get screen time?

The use of the 'Emily' character was mirrored (I won't say copied) by John Sullivan in Only Fools, where del would always use their mother for emotional blackmail, just like Albert always did with Harold.

It is a very popular technique - nobody mentioned another of my favourites, Mrs. Columbo, lol, you never see her either (yes I know they madea prog of that name!! lol).

No wonder Emily steptoe got out of there!! It wouldn't have worked as Mother and son as they would not have been able to push her about as much. Lol and 'you dirty old bird' doesnt seem quite the same...
