Happy Birthday Alan!

Postby Dirty Old Yank » Tue Nov 27, 2012 4:07 pm

It must be strange, to be a public figure that's so admired by complete strangers. Admirers around the world. There's no doubt Alan takes it all in stride, but it's difficult to describe our gratitude for the laughter that has filled this house (well...more of a flat really) since discovering Steptoe a few years ago. Thank you, Happy Birthday and many more!!! :)

Thank you Alan for co-creating with Ray what to this day is without question the finest comedy ever!
For filling the world with laughter, and a very Happy Birthday to you :)

I quite agree - with Hancock's Half Half Hour, being WAY up my list too! And I have many, many favourite sitcoms and comedy actors ... this must be the first one I remember though, from being a tiny tot and with very good reason. :) If I ever had such good fortune as to meet the series' creators, I know 'Thank You' is the first thing I would say.

Many happy returns, Alan!

For the benefit of our overseas fans, I should point out that on BBC Radio at the moment there is a series called The Missing Hancocks. It is an attempt to recreate old Ray and Alan scripted shows that the BBC managed to lose !!

There are actors playing Hancock, Williams, James etc and the music and atmosphere is all there, right down to the live studio audiance. I swear it is not any G&S bias I listen to radio a lot, but this is the best thing on the radio by some way.

I think there were 20 recordings lost altogether so there should be a few more treats is store. - I hope so !!
